Painted in oils with a palette knife at the Art Students League of New York. The strength of painting this way is that you have to get the colors in the shadow, and everywhere really, exactly right, because you’re not blending it with a paintbrush, but mixing the color as it is exactly. The challenge is to match the colors of hard-to-discern areas that are in shadow or half shadow without making it too dark/light/red/purple/green/etc. I did eat one of the apples.
